How Can I Help?
I approach all clients from a trauma informed, client centred approach. This means, I truly believe that everyone inherently has the strengths within themselves to heal - sometimes we just need a little guidance along the way.

Our work together will be grounded from Somatic Therapy lens, intertwined with a strengths based and solution focused framework. This means each session we will lean into the wisdom gained by becoming curious about how our bodies, behaviors and emotions are holistically intertwined.
Every client is unique, and my aim is to meet each of you exactly where you are. Using influences from many different modalities such as Mindfulness Based Therapy, Somatic Therapies, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Compassion Based Therapy, I am confident that we will be able to collaboratively achieve your therapeutic goals.

Insurance Info
Some insurers will fully or partially reimburse services of a Registered Counselling Therapist. Insurance companies such as Blue Cross, Greenshield Extended Health, Desjardins, Great West Life, Manulife, and Sunlife Financial recognize RCT's as mental health providers.
If you will be using insurance for session fees please check with your insurance company or HR department to confirm that Counselling Therapy services by a Registered Counselling Therapist are covered in your plan.
To help find out what insurance coverage you have for counselling therapy, I suggest you ask the following questions:
- Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
- Does my health insurance cover "Counselling Therapy" provided by a "Registered Counselling Therapist"?
- Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
- Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I have? If so, what is it?
- Do I need written approval (prescription) from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

What to Expect at your First Session
It can be unnerving not to know what to expect at your first counselling therapy session, so hopefully this helps to ease some of your anxieties.
-
We will go at your pace, you as the client are in control of the session.
-
You always have the right to say "no", or "I don't want to talk about that yet" when your therapist asks a questions or tries to learn more about you.
-
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. You'll provide some background information, talk about what prompted you to seek therapy and what your hopes or goals are for our time working together.
-
Since these are virtual counselling sessions, you will be in the comfort of your own home. It is suggested that you set yourself up in a cozy space, and have coffee/tea/water with you. If you have pets and they help to put you at ease, bring them too!
-
There will likely be times in the session where neither of us are talking - that is ok! Time to reflect and process what is happening is important.
-
You will likely be asked how or where you feel certain emotions in your body. Beginning to understand the mind-body connection is a big part of our work.
-
You might feel uncomfortable at times, or not know how to describe how you feel. This is ok! It's a new process and growth often takes place when we are slightly uncomfortable.
-
Therapy isn't a "quick fix". After one session you may not feel hugely different; please be patient with yourself and give yourself grace as you begin to work toward your goals.
-
You are allowed to ask questions to your therapist about the process, their therapeutic style, or really anything you think is important to know.
